Short: Bug-Fix. Optimises Fidonet outbound dir. Author: mat@darkside.demon.co.uk (Mat Bettinson) Uploader: mat darkside demon co uk (Mat Bettinson) Type: comm/fido Architecture: m68k-amigaos MaxPKT 2.5 by Mat Bettinson of the Plot Hatching Factory. Xenolink and some other tossers, have an annoying habit of creating a great deal of outgoing packets for a single system feed. IE: 2.254.524.0.FLO 2.254.524.0.DUT 2.254.524.0.MO0 2.254.524.0.MO1 2.254.524.0.TU0 2.254.524.0.TU1 etc etc etc... There is NO NEED for that at all AFAICS and it just annoys in the amount of files in your outbound which on large mail feed systems can get ridiculous. It also adds to the transfer time since Zmodem has a certain overhead per file meaning those tiny 300 byte packets take as long as a 10K would have otherwise if they were the same packet. Enter MaxPKT. It scans your outbound and attempts to create a single outgoing ECHO MAIL packet for each system. It works quite quickly (since it was originally going to extract then add with LHA I wrote it to be fairly intelligent so it does the least work needed) and on consequetive executions it won't take very long to decide it isn't needed so adding to INBOUNDMAIL is a real possibility and/or Cron execution. Usage is basic: [rx] MaxPKT2 Outbound dir isn't even needed if you alter the header of the script to give it a default value. The command line overrides the default value if you need to.... New for 2.5: MaxPKT now knows to ignore packets that aren't LHA archives. bit silly to miss that... Oops! OK that's about it... I don't think I'll be doing much more work on the Xenolink platform but maybe the odd script will come by. I'll probably complete my Dopus file-cat utility before I stop development for it totally but I hope to make some more general utils for all BBS platforms like this. "There's a new outlaw in town and this guy is stronger, meaner and faster than the lil' old Sherrif..." Be well and Merry Christmas to you all.
